Itinerary

Every Wonder Voyage itinerary (mission trip and/or pilgrimage) is personalized to the desires, direction and personality of each group. This itinerary is only a description of the kind of journey we can create for your unique team.

  • Day 1 – Arrival
Today plunges us into the strangeness and wonder of Colorado. After a quick lunch following your arrival, we will head for the Garden of the Gods to wander among the huge monuments of stone. These red formations symbolize our journey this week: they are unexpected and wild and beautiful elements of wonder in our journey with God.
  • Day 2 – A Castle In Colorado
A short trip through winding logging roads will bring us to one of the strangest sights we’ve seen in all of our journeys: a medieval castle in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Bishop’s Castle is a shrine to obsession. The stones here were laid by the hands of one man: Jim Bishop. We’ll explore the castle and hopefully be able to talk to its builder. Today we’ll ask ourselves: what monuments do we create in our lives? Who do we build our monuments to?
  • Day 3 – Into Fire
Today provides us the unique opportunity for ecological service. First, we will learn about local wildlife at the Mountain Park Environmental Center. Then we will have the unique opportunity to help preserve it through a beautification project in the park. Christ tasked us with being good stewards of our resources and our Earth is no exception.
  • Day 4 – A Quest for Sand
Our journey continues today with a trek into one of the great natural wonders of North America: the Great Sand Dunes National Monument. Wind directed by the nearby mountains rushes over the dunes to form shifting hills and valleys of sand. Though our footprints will disappear in a short few hours, we won’t easily forget this incredible quest for sand.
  • Day 5 – Through the Rapids
The numerous rivers and streams that run down from the Rocky Mountains eventually form roaring, powerful rivers. Weʼll spend the day whitewater rafting down the river responsible for carving the impressive Royal Gorge. On our trip weʼll be able to spot birds of prey and mountain goats as we navigate the rapids. Afterwards, weʼll sit down for delicious burgers at the aptly named Big Burger World.
  • Day 6 – The Springs
This morning brings us to Americaʼs Mountain, Pikeʼs Peak. There are several ways we could tackle Americaʼs 14,110-foot-tall Mountain. We could ride the Cog Railroad: a scenic and unique ride to the summit. Or maybe we could drive up up the winding Pikeʼs Peak Highway, a feat of engineering in its own right. Or we could hike up the Barr Trail to a rustic outpost hidden below the summit.
  • Day 7 – Departure
At your convenience, you will pack up and say goodbye to a fantastic week of exploration, service and encounter. What will you take home with you? The voyage is now in fact just beginning, and we pray that you carry fresh perspective and energy with you as you travel.
