Itinerary
Every Wonder Voyage itinerary (mission trip and/or pilgrimage) is personalized to the desires, direction and personality of each group. This itinerary is only a description of the kind of journey we can create for your unique team.
- Day 1 – Our Own Backyard
Our world is full of great need and greater hope. There is a sense, spurred on by the Holy Spirit, which we can truly make a change if we are willing to serve with our hands and show the love of Christ with our hearts. So often our eyes look outward to the world’s massive needs. But what about Jesus words, ‘Love your neighbor?’ What about the neighborhoods that sit in our proverbial backyards? For the next five days we will serve the least of these in downtown LA. We start today at an inner city garden program that’s feeding people with natural healthy food. This afternoon, we’ll settle into our home for the week, spend some time sharing and laughing and enjoying a bit of Stone Soup. Who knows, we may even take a side trip to Hollywood. - Day 2 – St. Francis in Our Midst
When St. Francis roamed the Umbrian countryside in medieval Italy he had two things on his mind: communing with God and connecting others to God through actions of love. Today we will serve and walk with the poor in the spirit of St. Francis. We will serve both breakfast and help in their local food bank. To stay in the spirit of St. Francis (who loved nature and animals) we have a couple of special surprise stops and a great dinner location. - Day 3 – A Peculiar People
What does it mean to be a peculiar people? That is the questions we will explore today. Today we will learn of the plight of the homeless and how we can bring hope to desperate situations in simple but powerful ways. Later in the day we will spend some time with the CIA – It’s not at all what you think. You’ll be talking about this one a long time! And we won’t forget to take you to Venice Beach to take in local oddities. - Day 4 – Cultural Exchange
After a morning back at the St. Francis Center we will spend an afternoon with a Spanish congregation. We will join them for their bi-weekly food bagging program, spend some time getting to know about the church’s call and hanging out with some of their church youth. A cool meal will bring us together after we celebrate a very special Eucharist. - Day 5 – Bringing the Backyard Home
Reaching out and serving around the world is a lot easier than visiting your own backyard and serving your neighbors. You’ve done well this week loving your neighbors as yourself. Through hard work, kind words, and open heart you have gained new eyes and new ears for the world immediately around you. Now for the toughest question of the week: where is the Holy Spirit nudging you to show God’s love in your backyard? Before our final celebration meal we will seek the answer to that question together.
