Mission Trip or Pilgrimage to Montana

"Opportunities for cultural exploration and outdoor adventure abound here."
VOYAGE TYPE
  • Outdoor Adventure

Situated along the Canadian border in the northwestern United States, Montana is named for the mountainous territory encountered by early explorers. Rivers, lakes, plains, and a variety of flora and fauna are a feast for the eyes. Beyond the diversity of the terrain, several Native American Nations call Montana home; and the region played a major role as the United States expanded westward. Opportunities for cultural exploration and outdoor adventure abound here.

A Wonder Voyage to Montana gives you the opportunity to experience the splendor of the great outdoors in Glacier National Park and the Flathead National Forest. Breathtaking vistas welcome you into an outdoor sanctuary. Wide-open spaces allow you to get away from the hectic part of life to pray, reflect, and experience wonder in a whole new way.

Itinerary

Every Wonder Voyage itinerary (mission trip and/or pilgrimage) is personalized to the desires, direction and personality of each group. This itinerary is only a description of the kind of journey we can create for your unique team.

  • Day 1 – Welcome To Big Sky
Welcome to Montana – Big Sky Country, known to some as “The Treasure State”. It’s easy here to see why any pilgrim would venture North to this region in search of natural beauty and splendor. The mission this week is to bond together over car rides, long hikes, memorable meals, incredible adventures and moments of wonder. We’ve come to the perfect place!
  • Day 2 – Treetop Adventure
Our outdoor adventure kicks off with a call of “on belay!” A canopy-level ropes course get the blood flowing and challenges our limits. We also enjoy the outdoor playground of inflatable obstacle courses – both on the ground and in the water! Then, we listen to the age old story of Stone Soup to find out what the evenings will bring throughout the week.
  • Day 3 – Local Stories
Today we head South, toward the Flathead Indian Reservation for a buffet of culture. A drive through the National Bison Range livens our spirits in the morning. We also visit a local sacred space to pause and reflect on our pilgrimage toward the heart of God. Hearing the stories from its builders open our eyes to great wonder.
  • Day 4 – Mountain Eucharist
At the midpoint in our journey, we pause for a Eucharist in the quiet mountain town of Kalispell. From here it’s a short drive to the resort community of Whitefish, where local shops and eateries fill the day with places to roam and relax.
  • Day 5 – Glacier National Park
With an early start we venture out for a full day of wonder. At Glacier National Park, known as the “Crown of the Continent”, we visit some of the park’s richest gems. The afternoon allows you to choose your own adventure through the park and experience the intricate ecosystem of this glacial wonderland.
  • Day 6 – Flathead Lake
With six different State Parks at various locations around the lake, it is essential for us to explore the perimeter of Flathead Lake. From popular hikes to hidden beaches, this day is filled with outdoor adventure and plenty of photo ops. In the evening we sit for a while and take in the remarkable sunsets.
  • Day 7 – Celebration
Today we suit up for a whitewater rafting adventure on one of Montana’s most scenic rivers, working as a team to get through the powerful rushing rapids. Once back on dry land we gather together for a special celebration dinner, grateful for an unforgettable week of adventure and deep connection.
  • Day 8 – Returning Home
From Flathead Lake to Glacier National Park, we have explored and encountered God in unforgettable ways. Our hearts and minds have been touched and transformed by God’s love and beauty. May we return with a sense of renewal, transformed by wonder.
