Itinerary
Every Wonder Voyage itinerary (mission trip and/or pilgrimage) is personalized to the desires, direction and personality of each group. This itinerary is only a description of the kind of journey we can create for your unique team.
- Day 1 – America’s Finest City
Welcome to San Diego, also known as “America’s Finest City!” After you touch down, we will make our way to where we will be staying for the week. We will begin our pilgrimage by exploring this waterfront area made famous by Wyatt Earp and his gambling halls. - Day 2 – Multiplicity
First, we will begin our day serving the refugee community resettled in southern California. This self-sacrificial moment will ground our voyage in the compassionate heart of Christ. After a morning of service, we will travel to the northern portion of San Diego for a hike through the Torrey Pines State Reserve where we will encounter the grandeur of both the cliffs and the sea. We will then ask ourselves at the end of the day: how did God meet us in our journey today? - Day 3 – The Beginning
Today, we will begin our morning by quieting our hearts. We will make our way to the Mission San Diego de Alcala, the oldest Catholic Mission in California – California’s first church. As the church in the west developed from this mission, how will God develop your faith in the stillness of these hallowed walls? From there, we will head to the Coney Island of the West: Belmont Park. Bring your own cash for the classic beach roller coasters, games, and food! - Day 4 – All Creatures of Our God
When most people think about San Diego, what typically pops into their mind? The San Diego Zoo! Consistently rated one of the top zoos in the world, we will meander through exhibits and experience the beauty and uniqueness of all of God’s creatures. While the zoo keeps you separated from the animals, La Jolla cove encourages you to be one with the creation. Hopefully you will even get to swim with the docile leopard sharks! - Day 5 – Melting Pot Kingdom
Today, we will participate in something Christians all over the world participate in – Eucharist. It will be another tangible, yet uniquely spiritual reminder of why we are on pilgrimage in the first place – to experience our Lord. Afterward, we will experience the rich Hispanic culture of southern California causing us to wonder how San Diego’s close proximity to Mexico has influenced its culture. Lastly, we will head to Petco Park and watch the Padres, San Diego’s only professional sports team. - Day 6 – The Grace of Play
Our last full day of pilgrimage will be spent lounging and relaxing at the famous Coronado Island. On the island, we will visit the Hotel del Coronado, home to many movies and celebrity guests. This setting will give us ample time to enjoy the southern California weather and reflect upon how God has moved in our lives this week. At the end of the day, we will celebrate our pilgrimage in classic Wonder Voyage style – with good food, good people, and in a unique spot! - Day 7 – A Story to Tell
A bittersweet moment, indeed! The end of our pilgrimage. While it is time to leave the glorious weather and culture of San Diego, what is lost has not perished. In experiencing God through your journey of San Diego’s extensive and eclectic culture, you now have a story – a story to constantly use as a reminder of God’s goodness in your own life as well as a story of God’s goodness to share with your family and friends.
