Legacy Kenya: Exciting Ndoto Update
Legacy Voyages is a branch of Wonder Voyage that connects philanthropically minded people with worthwhile projects around the globe. The team then travels to the location to see how their money was spent and has a true Wonder Voyage experience. Over the past several years, Legacy has helped build a school in Belize, renovated a YWAM base in New Orleans, bought an x-ray machine for a clinic in Honduras, and furnished computers for its new school in Kenya. When the team traveled to Kenya in November, they visited with the staff of Ndoto and were struck by another need: a van.
“This was our first time working with Ndoto,” team leader Brent Richardson said. “We had a low buy-in for the trip, so we could see what the organization was about. But when I got there, it was very clear that they were well organized and doing fantastic work.”
Brent asked the Ndoto Founder and Executive Director, Allison Schlack, what other needs Ndoto had. Allison shared that their biggest need was for a van.
The van would serve multiple purposes:
- As the new school grows, kids outside of walking distance need help to get to campus.
- The sports ministry would have a way to travel to matches.
- The staff could easily make visits to students’ homes.
- Students could be shuttled to retreats.
Before Brent even landed back in the States, the fundraising had begun. Legacy heeded the call and enthusiastically raised $20,500, which ultimately purchased the ministry TWO fully functional and certified vans. The new vans look and drive fantastically.
“This community loves finding real needs and meeting them,” Brent said. “This investment will help Ndoto in remarkable ways, and I am honored that we can be a part of it.”
This summer, Legacy will travel to New York City to work with Father’s Heart. In November, a team will travel to Honduras to help with entrepreneur training. Next year: Peru!
