Travel Touchstone: Nativities
My wife and I collected our first nativity on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2004. It’s made of local olive wood, and it is a treasured keepsake of a life-changing trip. On that same trip, we came across a display of nativities from around the world, and each featured elements that were authentic to the home country. It inspired us to collect nativities whenever we traveled, and ask friends and family to bring us nativities from their travels, too. We have over 40 sets now, and they fill our hearts with joy each Advent when we set them out. They help us remember the amazing places we’ve been blessed to visit, and also the beautifully diverse people from around the world for whom God came into the world to love and save.
