- Day 1 –Willkommen in Bavaria (Welcome to Bavaria)
Welcome to Bavaria! After landing in Munich, we head south. We start this adventure on the emerald green lake of Königssee, one of the most beautiful spots in Bavaria. There are several surprises set for your first day in Bavaria. For the next few days, we’ll stay in the town of Imst, Austria, the perfect spot for regional exploration. In the evening, after a tasty meal, we have a chance to share what we are looking forward to on this journey.
- Day 2 – The Gorge
One of Bavaria’s most dramatic natural wonders, the Partnach Gorge is a narrow crevasse cut into the solid rock by the Partnach River. We spend the day hiking this natural wonder whose formation began millions of years ago from the Schneeferner Glacier. Our day of hiking carries us into the beauty the Creator set in this world as a witness of love and wonder. Put on those hiking boots for a day of exploration.
- Day 3 – Day of Wonder
Wonder Voyage has a tradition of setting one day aside for a super secret surprise journey where every corner is a new path to wonder. We transport you to a different world today, an unexpected place where you will be delighted with what you find. Get ready for a day of wonder!
- Day 4 – Fairytale Castle
Perhaps “Mad” King Ludwig II was eccentric in his choice of a fairy-tale-inspired neo-Romanesque style for his castle, but his choice of setting was pure genius. The spires and towers rise from a rocky crag above a forest and lake, with a panorama of the Bavarian Alps. Widely recognized as the inspiration for Walt Disney’s theme park castles, it is as fantastical inside as it is when first viewed from below. The Throne Room, the Singers’ Hall, and other grandiose rooms are sumptuously decorated (some might say over-decorated) in themes drawn from heroic legends, opera, and romantic literature. The views of the Alps from the windows are simply breathtaking.
- Day 5– Imst
For our last night in Austria, we will enjoy the local wonders surrounding us. We will climb the waterfall trail into the mountains, ride the chairlift to the top of the mountain, and take a thrilling alpine coaster to the bottom. Don’t forget a great meal in a traditional restaurant and time to explore the town.
- Day 6 – Dachau
We leave our mountain hideaway and head to the Bavarian capital of Munich. On the way, we take a somber journey to the site of the Dachau concentration camp. Between 1933 and 1945, over 32,000 men, women, and children were murdered here. Jewish families from all over Europe, as well as the Soviets and other POWs, were kept in the worst conditions before being slaughtered. Exploring this dark history reveals the worst of mankind and the best of humanity. This day has the potential for lifelong transformation.
- Day 7 – Munich
Our last leg of the journey takes us to Munich, a city where the traditional and modern sit side by side. Known as the “city of art and beer,” Munich is a change of pace from rural Bavaria. We start the morning by touring Old City Center, and enjoying a hearty lunch. You have time to do some small group exploration before we experience a special Pass the Candle Eucharist at Berlin’s Church of the Ascension. Munich’s quirks, the things that make the city the place it is, might be what sticks in your memory most, but the celebration meal won’t disappoint.
- Day 8 – Abschied Deutschland
Your Bavarian voyage is an adventure that will leave an imprint on your lives. As you depart, hold this blessing from Martin Luther in your heart, “Behold, Lord, An empty vessel that needs to be filled. My Lord, fill it. Warm me and make me fervent. That my love may go out to my neighbor. O Lord, help me. Strengthen my faith and trust in thee.” Abschied Deutschland!
