Itinerary
Every Wonder Voyage itinerary (mission trip and/or pilgrimage) is personalized to the desires, direction and personality of each group. This itinerary is only a description of the kind of journey we can create for your unique team.
- Day 1- Hill Country
Just an hour or two’s drive from both Austin and San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country is the heart of the Lone Star State. A destination of natural beauty paired with its easygoing nature is both relaxing and inspirational. Steeped in history, this land of limestone and granite hills plus rolling grasslands is filled with opportunities to explore the beauty of nature. One of the more unexplored regions of Texas, the Hill Country will give you a little taste of paradise. The week ahead promises to be one of exploration, community, and fun. - Day 2- Guadalupe
The Guadalupe River is the premiere feature of our adventure today. With its headwaters rising northwest of San Antonio, the Guadalupe travels approximately 250 miles across Texas to the Gulf of Mexico. We begin the day learning about the area’s flora, fauna, and early settlers with a hike at the Honey Creek Natural area of Guadalupe River State Park. In the afternoon, we will be even closer to the river with a tubing adventure. The evening brings the first of our two nights of “Stone Soup: Dinner and a Show!” - Day 3- Giving Back
President John F. Kennedy is quoted as saying, “Every person can make a difference, and every person should try.” Today we use this as a source of inspiration for a day of service. We head out to join the Army Corps of Engineers volunteer program at Canyon Lake. This lake was designed in the late 1950s for flood control along the Guadalupe River. It is estimated that in its more than 50-year history, the lake has prevented millions of dollars worth of flood damage to the communities in the Lower Guadalupe River Basin. After a day of service, we will head back to camp for the finale of “Stone Soup: Dinner and a Show!” - Day 4- Let’s Go Batty
One of the most striking features of the Hill Country landscape is a pink granite dome known as Enchanted Rock, used as a gathering place for centuries by indigenous peoples. Then we come to Fredericksburg, known for its German culture and history. We explore the town and the Museum of the Pacific War, and in the evening, we look to the skies above an old railroad tunnel in hopes of sighting the millions of Mexican free-tailed bats that live within. - Day 5- San Antonio
The journey today takes us to what is considered the southern edge of the Hill Country: San Antonio. Situated along the San Antonio River, this city has long been an area of settlement due to the plentiful fresh water. The first European settlers came as missionaries from Spain; to this day, the city maintains a Hispanic flair. The day is spent exploring the city’s historical and cultural sites. After an evening celebration meal, we return to the campground for a final gathering. - Day 6- Yee Haw!
After a week of exploring the best of Texas Hill Country, it is time to head out and make the journey home. This part of the adventure is winding down, but the stories and community are destined to move forward. You may even have one more Austin adventure on the way home.
