Mission Trip or Pilgrimage to Maine

"... cobblestone beaches and glacier-carved mountains rising up from the sea."
VOYAGE TYPE
  • Outdoor Adventure

Its scenic seacoast, beaches, lakes, and mountains make Maine a popular place to visit. Join us as we explore the rich beauty of The Pine Tree State. Here you will find granite cliffs with sand and cobblestone beaches and glacier-carved mountains rising up from the sea. Here, too, are meadows and marshes and dense evergreen forests to hike. As we explore the sights of Maine, the ocean makes its presence felt, whether by sight, sound, or smell.

While in Maine, we will travel through villages filled with America’s history, explore natural wonders, visit a lighthouse, and eat lobster. Should you choose to travel with us on mission or pilgrimage to Maine the majesty of creation will overtake you, and you will find that the quiet pace of life provides the space you need to restore.

Itinerary

Every Wonder Voyage itinerary (mission trip and/or pilgrimage) is personalized to the desires, direction and personality of each group. This itinerary is only a description of the kind of journey we can create for your unique team.

  • Day 1 – Arrival
Your voyage begins today as you land in Maine, a fantastic destination known for its staggering natural vistas. After you meet up with your director, you will get the chance to take in the scenic coast as you make your way to your home for the week. Our ultimate destination a monastic retreat set in breathtaking coastal Maine.
  • Day 2 – Stillness
On Sunday we will wake to a new and different sort of routine, one that reaches far into the history of our faith. Today we aim to walk in stillness and solitude as monks. After an early breakfast, we will partake in the early morning service at a picturesque local church. We’ll spend the rest of the day exploring the beautiful grounds of the monastery, speaking to one of their order, and getting into the monastic rhythm. What happens to our spiritual life when we slow down? How good are we at listening? Our history is full of men and women who did nothing but listen for God’s voice.
  • Day 3 – God of Wonders
Today will be a contrast to our restful Sunday. Our spiritual journeys are the same way: we live in a paradox of quiet peace and riotous excitement. After breakfast we’ll take a scenic hike along Marginal Way, a beautiful coastline path stretching from Perkin’s Cove to the quaint village of Ogunquit. The rest of our day will provide us with new adventures as we take to the sea in kayaks. We’ve experienced the quietness of God, but how to we respond to Him in times of uncertainty and challenge?
  • Day 4 – Roads Less Traveled
We’ll begin today with another hike, this time on Parson’s Way trail. Today’s cliff-side hike features pounding surf and heart-stopping views of the ocean. Later in the day, you’ll be boarding a boat and heading out for a private tour of one of only two open-island lighthouses. Some have said that one of the ancient beacons is haunted! Faith is an adventure. Who knows where today’s adventures will take you?
  • Day 5 – Rest
For our final full day in Maine, your group will have the chance to look around Kennebunkport. The rest of our day will include a picnic lunch and relaxation at the beach. Your evening will end with a time of worship and walking the Stations of the Cross, Christ’s journey of redemption and hope.
  • Day 6 – Departure
At your convenience, you will pack up and say goodbye to a fantastic week of exploration, service and encounter. The voyage is now in fact just beginning. We pray that you carry fresh perspective as your group continues on its journey together.
